Can You Spray UPVC Windows? (And Should You?)

Yes — UPVC windows, doors and conservatories can be sprayed, and it's one of the most cost-effective upgrades you can make to your home's exterior. Here's everything you need to know before you book.

Which UPVC can be sprayed?

Almost everything white and plastic on the outside of your house: window and door frames, conservatories, garage doors, fascias, soffits and bargeboards. Composite doors can be sprayed too.

The frames need to be in reasonable condition — spraying refreshes colour and finish, but it won't repair cracked or warped units (though those are rarer than people expect).

How long does a sprayed finish last?

With proper preparation — cleaning, degreasing, keying the surface, then specialist adhesion primers and exterior-grade coatings — a sprayed UPVC finish is designed to last for many years.

The key word is preparation. UPVC is naturally glossy and non-porous, so paint won't stick to it without being keyed and primed correctly. That's the difference between a finish that lasts and one that peels within a year — and the main reason professional spraying outperforms DIY.

What colours can you choose?

Anthracite grey (RAL 7016) is by far the most popular — it suits almost every property and adds instant kerb appeal. Black, agate grey and softer shades like French Grey are close behind.

You're not limited to greys, though. We regularly spray Farrow & Ball shades — Hague Blue and Down Pipe look outstanding on the right house — and can match RAL, BS or brand colours precisely.

Spraying vs replacing

Replacing windows typically costs thousands per house, involves scaffolding, weeks of waiting and making good afterwards. Spraying the frames you already have costs a small fraction, is usually completed within days, and leaves your existing — and often perfectly good — double glazing in place.

If your frames are straight, sealed and functioning, replacement is usually solving a problem you don't have. Spraying solves the actual problem: the colour.

Quick answers

Will sprayed UPVC peel or fade?

Not if it's done properly. Specialist adhesion primers and flexible exterior coatings are designed to expand and contract with the frames through seasonal temperature changes.

Can you spray just the doors, not the windows?

Absolutely — many customers spray the front door, garage door and conservatory first, then do the windows later. We can match colours across separate visits.

How long does UPVC spraying take?

Most homes are completed within days depending on the number of frames — we'll confirm a timescale in your free quote.
